About
Dr. Will Coleman is widely respected for his professionalism, expertise, and deep passion for emergency veterinary care. A 1999 graduate of the University of Georgia, he has dedicated his career to advancing the quality of urgent and specialty services for pets. His path has taken him through several leading emergency hospitals, including two modern, well-equipped clinics in Boulder and Westminster, Colorado, as well as a practice in Augusta, Georgia, before bringing his skills and vision to Hawaii.
Dr. Coleman is unwavering in his commitment to providing the highest standard of medical care to the pets of Oahu. His clinical interests include anesthesia, pain management, trauma medicine, and surgery. Known for his warmth and compassion, he fosters trust with every client and patient, blending technical excellence with genuine care.
When planning his move from Colorado to Hawaii in 2007, Dr. Coleman was surprised to discover that Honolulu lacked readily available after-hours emergency veterinary care. Determined to fill this gap, he began the five-year journey of planning and opening VERC, Hawaii’s first 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital, in collaboration with Dr. Erika Sox. When VERC opened its doors in 2012, it brought long-overdue specialty services to the islands and quickly became a vital resource for pet owners and referring veterinarians.
Under Dr. Coleman’s leadership, VERC expanded eight times in its original location. By 2016, it became clear that taking the hospital’s care to the next level would require additional resources. In 2018, VERC joined Ethos Veterinary Health, with the shared vision of building a new state-of-the-art facility. Dr. Coleman remained associate medical director for two years post-acquisition before stepping into the lead role in designing and overseeing construction of an 18,000-square-foot hospital on Nimitz Highway.
In November 2021, the new facility opened its doors, marking a major milestone in specialty veterinary medicine for Hawaii. Shortly after stepping down from the administrative team in July 2022 to return full-time to his true passion, providing hands-on emergency care, Dr. Coleman learned that VERC had been named Hospital of the Year and won first place for hospital design in DVM360’s national competition, surpassing 50 specialty hospitals across the mainland.
Today, Dr. Coleman continues to deliver the exceptional, compassionate emergency care that has defined his career. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, and sailing with his husband when the seas aren’t too rough.
